Our Work: Education
Education: Growing Successful Kids
Consider this: Healthy children are more able to engage in the full range of life experiences that promote early learning.
Children's motor skills and coordination have an important influence on their cognitive and social-emotional development as well as their academic achievement. High quality pre-K programs help improve the school readiness of young children by enhancing their social, emotional and cognitive development. Children who attend high-quality pre-K enter school more prepared and achieve greater success, including fewer grade retentions, less special education placement and higher standardized test scores.
Our vision is that all children in Greater Greensboro will grow up in healthy, safe, and nurturing physical, social and emotional environments by:
- Reducing abuse and neglect
- Helping parents find safe, affordable childcare
- Providing social and academic enrichment for disadvantaged K-12 children
More specifically, United Way advances the common good by creating long-lasting changes that address the underlying problems that threaten children in our community by funding 15 programs in this area.
