Community Initiatives

United Way of Greater Greensboro's Leadership and Collaborative Efforts in the Community

Thriving at Three

Mission

Thriving at Three is a United Way of Greater Greensboro community collaboration with a simple premise: children who are healthy, physically and emotionally, by age three are more likely to be successful in school and in life.

Strategy

  • To engage and empower parents and caregivers by providing clear, useful information on child health and development and available services to promote active participation in their children's well being.
  • To promote a strong, high-quality system of care that includes community-family partnerships supported by well-coordinated services from public and private agencies working with children.
  • To conduct outreach to homes with vulnerable children as close to birth as possible and provide services that link families to community resources.

  • United Way of Greater Greensboro thanks IBM for their generous gift of over $12,000 to support the expansion of Thriving at Three.

Success at School

Vision

A parent and community driven system of support and opportunities, with schools as the hub, that will help students excel academically and socially through enrichment activities.

Strategy

Through collaboration with Communities in Schools and Guilford County Schools, the Success at School program now provides after-school enrichment programs in 5 Title I Elementary schools and serves over 500 children and their families. Through ensuring that parents become partners in this process, Success at School supports the community in bringing opportunities to children in schools and increasing their likelihood of long term success.
