African American Male Initiaitve

"It is easier to build strong children than
to repair broken men."-Frederick Douglas
After two years of exploration by United Way and the African American Leadership engagement group into the issues affecting our minority community, United Way of Greater Greensboro is partnering with Guilford County Schools to improve outcomes for young African American males.
Under the leadership and program implementation of Communities in Schools of Greater Greensboro, committed volunteers will serve as mentors to young men in 2nd to 5th grades. Beginning in the fall of 2011, a pilot program has launched at Wiley Elementary School, located in central Greensboro.
Sometimes it just takes one committed adult to keep a young person’s dreams alive. As a mentor you will help a young man believe in himself and embrace his potential to do great things. Together, we can change the future of Greensboro’s young African American men. It takes an entire community to make a difference, and we need you.
