United Way Opens Second Family Success Center

Thanks to your support, our movement to END poverty is growing!

United Way of Greater Greensboro (UWGG) made history on Monday, February 4, by opening its second Family Success Center (FSC). The center will operate at The Salvation Army of Greensboro Center of Hope.

The FSC model addresses the needs of families living on low incomes by offering bundled services in one accessible location that are tailored to meet their unique needs. Services focused on employment, education, financial capability, health and wellness and basic needs are provided through collaboration.

Speakers included City of Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan, UWGG President and CEO Michelle Gethers-Clark, Captain of The Salvation Army Greensboro Command Matt Hedgren and The Salvation Army of Greensboro Center of Hope Executive Director Jackie Lucas.

“Everyone is going to get their ladder to success, to get them to the place that allows them to be prosperous on their terms, that allows every child, every mother, every father, every grandma, every grandpa to see their family become upwardly mobile,” said Michelle Gethers-Clark.

Attendees toured the facility and heard directly from Family Success Center staff who are already serving new members!

“We know that we have an issue when it comes to poverty and we have the guts to look at it head on and say ‘we can fix this’. We know that we’ve got the community partners in this city that can come together and work with families,” said Mayor of Greensboro Nancy Vaughan.

UWGG’s Family Success Center model is a proven integrated service delivery approach that has been recognized regionally, nationally and even at a worldwide level. UWGG intends to open at least two additional Family Success Centers in the coming years.

With the support of the board of directors, more than 30 community partners, foundations and donors, United Way of Greater Greensboro’s first Family Success Center was opened at Guilford Child Development in 2015.
