Busting Myths
Breaking Down Common Poverty Myths
Greensboro is home to poverty that is generational, complex, and overwhelming, whether you’re living it or leading the mission to end it. Imagine trying to navigate a maze of support systems while juggling two jobs, raising kids, or managing a health challenge… maybe all three. That is the reality for many in our community.

Our Bold Goal
Our Bold Goal: 3,000 Households by 2030
We’re on a path to help 3,000 households overcome generational poverty and create lasting stability by 2030. Together, we will raise funds, facilitate workplace campaigns, distribute grants, and engage partners and volunteers to implement an integrated approach that creates a more personalized path for each household to receive the help they need.
“The Bold Goal was developed with diverse community stakeholder input and belongs to all of us. Collectively, thousands of people in our community stepped up to say we can work together to create equitable systems change and collaborate to produce positive outcomes for families living in generational poverty. Breaking the cycle of poverty benefits our entire community. Fewer people living in poverty creates a shared prosperity that impacts economic, health, social, and educational well-being for all.”
– Frank McCain, President and CEO, UWGG.
