AAL brings together African American professionals, philanthropists, and community leaders who are committed to strengthening Greensboro and expanding opportunities for families across our community.
Through leadership, philanthropy, and strategic engagement, members support United Way of Greater Greensboro’s mission to improve lives, build thriving communities, and help families move beyond poverty toward lasting financial stability.
Together, AAL members use their voices, networs, and influence to help advance solutions that create meaningful and lasting change.

Why African American Leaders?
Strengthening our community and ending generational poverty requires leadership, collaboration, and sustained investment.
United Way of Greater Greensboro works alongside nonprofits, businesses, schools, the faith community and other partners to address the root causes of poverty and expand opportunities for families. The African American Leaders Affinity Group plays an important role in that work by helping increase awareness, mobilize resources, and deepen engagement within the community.
Members serve as ambassadors and advocates who help connect individuals, workplaces, and organizations to United Way’s mission and impact.
Through AAL, members build meaningful relationships, strengthen their leadership, and contribute to initiatives that help families move toward economic stability.
Areas of Community Impact
AAL helps amplify and support initiatives that strengthen families and expand opportunity across Greensboro.
Together, these efforts help expand opportunity, strengthen neighborhoods, and create pathways out of poverty.
African American Male Initiative (AAMI)
Supporting mentorship, leadership development, and opportunities that help African American boys and young men thrive.
Family Success Centers
Community hubs that bundle services, reduce barriers like childcare and transportation, and help families move toward financial stability.
Mentoring Matters
Encouraging mentorship and leadership development that empowers the next generation.
Conversations with Community Leaders
Engaging discussions that bring together leaders to explore solutions to challenges facing our community.
What Members Experience
As a member of the African American Leaders Affinity Group, you will have opportunities to:
- Connect with other African American professionals and community leaders
- Participate in volunteer opportunities that support United Way initiatives
- Engage in meaningful conversations about community challenges and solutions
- Support programs that expand opportunity for families and youth
- Attend networking events with local leaders and partners
- Serve as an ambassador for United Way’s mission in the community
Members are encouraged to use their leadership, influence, and networks to help build awareness and support for solutions that improve lives across Greensboro.
Membership
The African American Leaders Affinity Group is made up of individuals who are committed to leadership, philanthropy, and community impact.
Members support United Way of Greater Greensboro through an annual leadership gift of $500 or more and engage in opportunities to volunteer, connect, and advocate for solutions that help families move out of poverty.
Members are encouraged to:
- Participate in AAL events and engagement opportunities
- Support volunteer initiatives throughout the year
- Help expand the network of leaders committed to strengthening our community
- Champion United Way’s mission and impact
