the changing needs of families.
At the same time, long-term partners continue to provide steady leadership
and confidence in our work.
HANDBAGS FOR HOPE: A signature community
investment
For more than a decade, Handbags for Hope has
brought the Greensboro community together
around generosity, connection, and shared
purpose. What began as a creative fundraising
event has grown into one of United Way of
Greater Greensboro’s signature community
investments — helping fuel work across
education, financial stability, and health.
In 2024, Handbags for Hope experienced
renewed energy and leadership under the
co-chairmanship of Nancy Brenner and her
daughter, Molly Brenner Harbaugh, reinvigorating
the event and reinforcing its role as both a
philanthropic tradition and a sustained source
of community investment. The event raised
more than $250,000, directly supporting United
Way’s efforts to strengthen families and advance
community-wide outcomes through Family
Success Centers.
As we look ahead, Handbags for Hope will
mark its 15th annual event on April 27, 2026,
a milestone that reflects the sustained
commitment of investors, sponsors, volunteers,
and partners who have helped shape its legacy
over time. Together, the success and longevity of
Handbags for Hope demonstrate what is possible
when community generosity is aligned with
purpose and impact.
