2024-25 ANNUAL REPORT 7 FAMILY SUCCESS CENTERS: 10 years of building pathways forward For a decade, United Way of Greater Greensboro’s two Family Success Centers have helped families move toward stability through sustained coaching, coordinated services, and long-term support. What began as a pilot in 2015 has grown into a proven component of our Integrated Service Delivery model, helping shape how we partner, invest, and support households across Greensboro. This milestone reflects more than longevity. It represents years of learning, collaboration, and a commitment to walking alongside families over time. UNDERSTANDING THE FAMILIES OFTEN OVERLOOKED Why we’re deepening our focus This year, to highlight a reality the federal poverty line does not capture, we continued elevating awareness of households described as “ALICE” — Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. These are working households earning above the poverty threshold yet unable to afford basic necessities such as housing, childcare, transportation, and health care. In 2024–2025, we centered our focus on education and shared understanding of who ALICE households are and how we can change outcomes. United Way of Greater Greensboro strengthened internal knowledge of ALICE data across staff and board leadership, building a common language around the financial pressures facing working families in Guilford County. North Carolina recently joined the United For ALICE network, with United Way of North Carolina leading the effort to bring standardized ALICE research to our state. North Carolina is now one of more than 30 states using ALICE data to better understand and support households that are working and still cannot afford the basics.
